Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid has launched the Dubai Creek Extension project to create a new water passage from Business Bay to Jumeirah Beach.
The canal will span 3 kilometres.
Work on the project will start with a bridge on Shaikh Zayed Road, near Safa Park, Shaikh Mohammad announced at a ceremony at Safa Park.
A canal will connect the Creek extension from the Business Bay side, cutting across Shaikh Zayed Road, to Jumeirah.
Four pedestrian bridges will also be constructed, including one that will link to a four-storey shopping mall to be constructed near the area.
Different types of buildings will also be constructed on both sides of the canal starting from the Business Bay Area, where a bridge 8 metres high will be constructed to allow 200-metre yachts to pass through.
Several docking stations will also be constructed along the canal.
The creek extension project will also feature a six-kilometre beach on both sides.
